Canvas Emotions: Edition 3 - Brushstrokes of wisdom through the art of Ho Jeong.
Exploring Ho Jeong's 'Stand Alone', we delve into the profound intergenerational divide, pondering the societal repercussions of marginalizing the elderly.
In the incessant flow of time, we find ourselves before Ho Jeong's hyper-realistic canvas titled 'Stand Alone', which invites me to reflect on the intergenerational gap that seems to widen in our contemporary society. Through the representation of two hands intertwined, marked by the passage of time and the traces of life, this painting immerses me in a profound contemplation of the value of emotional connection and the family bonds that are often overlooked.

A united community of people passionate about the who, the how, and the why behind artworks.

My childhood memories with my grandparents intertwine with the image that Ho Jeong has captured in their work, reminding me of the importance of honoring and valuing our elders. In an increasingly youth-centered and innovation-driven world, we risk marginalizing those who have accumulated decades of wisdom and experience. My grandmother's house, with its central hallway connecting generations and its kitchen imbued with comforting aromas, represented a sanctuary of traditions and values passed down from generation to generation.
However, as I reflect on these memories, I cannot help but feel profound regret for the time I did not spend with my grandparents - they all died when I was very young (around 7 years old). Contemporary society seems to be forgetting the value of the elderly, relegating our seniors to a corner, far from the attention and recognition they deserve. This marginalization not only deprives younger generations of the invaluable wisdom and experience of their elders but also perpetuates a cycle of disconnect and lack of understanding between different age groups.
As a society, we are failing to recognize the importance of building strong and respectful intergenerational bridges. The gap between generations is widening, and with it, invaluable opportunities for learning, growth, and prosperity together are lost. The wisdom of our elders is a treasure that we must cherish and harness to build a future that is more compassionate and equitable for all.
'Stand Alone' reminds me - and I hope this text also reminds you - of the importance of stopping and reflecting on how we are treating our elders. It challenges us to reconnect with the wisdom and experience of past generations and to recognize that their contribution to our society is invaluable. Only when we learn to value and respect our elders can we build a world where all generations coexist in harmony and support each other on the journey of life.
